OUTCOMES FROM THE 2006 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: NEW EXECUTIVE AND A REVISED CONSTITUTION

The Friends of Durras Annual General Meeting was held on 30 June 2006. It was noted by all present that the abortive hostile takeover attempt in January this year seems to have revitalized the group, stimulating renewed commitment from longstanding members and attracting new members interested in protecting our very special environment. Detailed Minutes from the AGM have been sent by email to all Friends of Durras financial members. If any members have not received this email (or if unable to receive email have not yet received a hard copy in the post) please contact Friends of Durras (P.O. Box 174, Batemans Bay, NSW 2536) with your contact details to remedy this.

Changes in the Executive

Since the AGM there have been some changes in the Executive Committee due to other commitments.

The Executive Committee is now

Secretary: Lorna Tilley
Treasurer: Julie McGuiness
Publicity and Technical Officer: Tony Cameron
Committee Member (General): Beth Heyde
Committee Member (General): Virginia Young
Committee Member (General): John Perkins
Committee Member (General): Arno Mullbacher
Committee Member (General): Yvonne Wills

The position of Convenor is being filled on an acting basis as required until the AGM.

The New Constitution

Immediately following the end of the AGM a Special General Meeting was called to discuss and vote on the adoption of a revised FOD Constitution. The proposed changes to the FoD Constitution were circulated among all financial members prior to this meeting. Substantive feedback from initial consultations was incorporated into the final circulated draft of the proposed new Constitution. No further feedback on the last draft was received.

The revised Constitution updates and expands the role and objectives of the Friends of Durras. It also further tightens the requirements for membership with the view to avoiding any future takeover attempts such as the unsuccessful attempted takeover in January 2006. (See the opinion provided by the Environmental Defender's Office on the illegality of the attempted takeover on this website.)
